Self Portrait

Alright, here's my "self portrait." This was an assignment for my painting class. We were supposed to make "self portraits" but abstractly, combining more than one image or concept in the painting. Also, it had to be monochromatic, and of course I chose purple.

And now you ask, how does this represent me? Well, think of it as this: with the complete absence of light, everything is black. You can't see anything, therefore you see no beauty. In this particular picture, I am in "outer space," a place where there is no life, there is nothing to hear or taste or smell or touch. So, without light in outer space, there is just nothing. There is no point in existing in a place where you have no senses. But, there is light in this picture, and it is coming from the very tips of my fingers. With this light, I can see a glimpse of the beautiful things around me, such as that nebula type thing, and all the stars. I am having a sort of epiphany: I have the power to make things beautiful. I am not simply at the mercy of fate. There is something spectacular in this world of darkness, if you can learn how to use the power inside of you.
